Carroll's all round play
Very good in the last couple of games.

Was looking like he couldn't do much with the ball at his feet or get very involved earlier in the season other than heading it, but showed some great touches and passes in build up play today- notably for Valencia's goal. As well as being his usual menacing self in the air.

Starting to look like the player we were all envisaging and hoping for when we originally signed him.

On his day he's unplayable. If he keeps off the boize he'll notch double figures and get that england number 9 jersey back no probs

Re: Carroll's all round play
This is his longest run of fitness in about 4 years. He and we have been desperately unlucky with his injuries since he joined us. I'm really glad for him, after all the hard work to get back to this current level. It will be very good for West Ham and England if he can stay fit for a good long time.

Seems far more settled since he met that bird.

Re: Carroll's all round play
He will score goals if there are chances to, the first half today was just the example of the reason why people get on his back and also don't want him in the team. The second half showed that if there is movement up front and from runners from midfield Carroll can play a role that doesn't mean we just pump the ball in the box.

cant argue with his effort. unfortunately he has a huge transfer fee to live up to which isn't his fault.

Surely double figures from the big man this season

He was fucking awesome today. Should make the england squad for the march internationals.

Seems to have knuckled down.

Re: Carroll's all round play
I think he's dropping too deep and after last weeks goal now holding it too long. Most effective when taking z touch and laying it off. Turning and dragbacks not really his style

Re: Carroll's all round play
Really playing the channels, confusing defenders who're expecting to do battle for the the crosses. Looks like he enjoys playing with the ball at his feet.

Linking up well with Valencia whose looking more and more effective, and not giving the ball away so much, could still do with a better end product though.

Carroll doing great defensive work as well, he's obviously enjoying his football

Re: Carroll's all round play
Agree with Green Street - when you consider that he has (probably) played more minutes for us than most other outfield players in the last month or so his work rate is incredible - tackling back and defending from set pieces etc, as well as his link up play.

He could well turn out to be the player we knew Deano would have been but for Short Shite-Phillips - okay, maybe not technically as good but certainly as effective in his own way!

5 goals in his last nine games now.

Reacted well to get in front of the defender today.

Seemed to pick out a particular fan in the BML to celebrate with. I wonder what the story was there.

What green street said.....

He looks fit now and gets round the pitch far more which helps us defend from the front a lot better. He looks to have got a bit more hunger to win in the last few games and fancy him to hit 10 before the end of the seasom

Re: Carroll's all round play
Good to see him getting a poachers goal, that's why you need someone up with him, just lumping the ball at him doesn't get the best out of him.

His fitness levels seemed to have improved in the last couple of games.

Re: Carroll's all round play
I only saw the TV highlights so I'm not denying that Carroll had a good game vs Everton, as several posters have said. But his contribution to Valencia's goal was just routine, not amazing as some claim. Valencia was the only WHU player in front of Carroll, and when he received Carroll's pass he still had everything to do.

Bit like you claiming we won as many points with Cole up front as Carroll, Alex?
